‘Box’ is a Hit!

Performances for the Dallas premiere of Box at Undermain Theatre are underway, and the response has been tremendous! I had the pleasure of attending opening weekend of the show, which was a warm embrace from a city that stands as one of the country’s largest cultural hubs. Audiences and critics (see below) alike have enjoyed this puzzle of a play, and opening weekend saw this ferocious cast performing for two sold out houses. I learned that presales for Box have been the highest for any show at Undermain since before the pandemic.
Press coverage for this show has been very generous. Take a look at what Dallas is saying about Box:
I sat down (virtually) with Manny Mendoza of the Dallas Morning News to discuss Box and my writing process. A War of the Worlds and Frog Splash also make appearances in this lovely piece.
Read a primer on Henry Box Brown’s life, and hear an audio segment featuring clips from the show and interviews with the creative team (and yours truly).
“A truly all-star cast inhabits the columned basement space at Undermain Theatre in Box, a sumptuous, sleight-of-hand production of Jarrett King’s play based on the remarkable life of Henry Box Brown…And what a trip it is.”
“Box is an interesting mix of imagined events and real history, dark issues and light-hearted magic. King’s characters are vividly drawn, his dialogue lively and often surprising—and Henry Brown (a charismatic and solemn Bryan Pitts) is a man worth knowing, courage and flaws alike.”
Many broken legs to the phenomenal cast of Box! Can’t wait to make my way back to Dallas!
