Education
My mission as an educator is to awaken the hungry human spirits of those in need of artistic contact, particularly young people, with courage and empathy.
10+ Years of Educational experience.
-
In 2023, I was hired as the Director of Education at Court Theatre (2022 Regional Theatre Tony Award). Since that time, I have expanded our in-school residency program, grown attendance to our High School Matinees, and created a new professional development series entitled Dramatic Literacy: Unlocking Text-Based Play.
-
I've worked as a Teaching Artist at Steppenwolf, Silk Road Rising, and Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Auditorium Theatre, Vagabond School of the Arts, Bravo Performing Arts Academy, and UNSILENCE. Additionally, I've worked in educational environments as a tutor and substitute teacher.
-
I've taught courses in Theatre Appreciation and Teaching Artistry at Loyola University. In 2022, my Teaching Artistry students founded Loyola's first arts education cohort, 'Blering the Lines. My students have received apprenticeships at Raven Theatre and iTheatrics in NYC.
Black Teen Lives Matter
Between November 2020 and June of 2021, I directed Black Teen Lives Matter, a virtual project featuring monologues and short plays written by Black teens—many of whom I taught—in Silk Road Rising’s EPIC (Empathic Playwriting Intensive Course) program from 2017-2020.
“We were gifted with a wonderful hour of authentic, important work. I loved every minute of it.”
“I loved that the students' voices were so essentially realized, and Jarrett and the actors did a beautiful job with the pieces.”
